Summary

A Neolithic flint axe and pick were found in 1925 during the construction of Rabling Road. Both are now in Dorset Museum, Dorchester. The exact find location is not known.

Full Description

(Centred SZ 027792) Flint pick and axe found in Rabling Road, Swanage. In Dorset County Museum 1947.4.1-2. <1>

Neolithic flint implements found during the making of Rabling Road in the north east part of Swanage given by the executrix of J. E. Mowlem to Dorset County Museum.

Museum No 1947.4.1. - Pickhead chipped; grey colour with one light brown stain; length 7 7/8 ins.

No 1947.4.2. - Axehead, chipped; fine secondary working to form good cutting edge; dark brown colour, mottled with buff Length 6 3/4ins. <2>

No further information was obtained during field investigation which would enable these finds to be more accurately sited. <3>

Rabling Road, Swanage was built circa 1925 but the then Foreman knew nothing of the finds. <4>
