Summary

Course of 3 foot 9 inch gauge tramway. Built from Norden to Goathorn Pier. Closed to through traffic in 1936. In 1948 this was rebuilt to the more conventional 1 foot 11.5 inch gauge. Now closed altogether.

Full Description

A 3ft. 9 in. gauge tramway carrying clay across the heath from Norden (SY 9582) to Goathorn Pier (SZ 016863) ceased to be used for through traffic in 1936. A 1 1/2 mile length from the pier to Newton Clay Works (SZ 012847) survived for a short time, and four miles at the Norden end were retained, being rebuilt in 1948 to a gauge of 1 ft. 11 1/2 in. None is now in use. <2>
