Summary

Branch railway built between Milton Newton and Bridport, opening in 1857. It operated as a broad gauge until replaced by narrow gauge in 1871. It was extended to Bridport Harbour in 1884, although the terminal station was called West Bay in deference to the company which was anxious to develop tourism. The Bridport - West Bay section was closed in 1930, and the rest of the line closed in 1975.

Full Description

The Bridport - Maiden Newton line was extended to Bridport Harbour (West Bay Station) in 1884. With the commercial harbour trade failing and the failure of West Bay to develop as a major resort, the line was unprofitable and was closed on September 22nd 1930. <1>
