Monument record MWX65 - Swanage Branch Railway

Summary
Standard gauge railway opened between Worgret Junction on the Southampton and Dorchester line, and Swanage. Opened in 1885, it was closed in 1972, although the section between Corfe Castle and Swanage remains open as a private line run by a preservation society. The whole line was re-laid between 1995 and 2002, and reconnected with the main line.

Full Description
Former London & South Western Railway branch from Wareham. Worgret Junction to Swanage open 1885 (St John Thomas 1966) and closed to passengers in 1972 (Daniels and Dench 1973). (The section between Furzebrook Clay works - SY 934840 and 1:50 000 1979).
