Summary

A bowl barrow situated on Emmett's Hill on the edge of a precipitous cliff to the west. The barrow has a mound composed of earth and limestone blocks, with maximum dimensions of 12 metres in diameter and about 0.75 metres in height. Partial cliff collapse has resulted in the loss of about 4 metres of the mound to the west. Surrounding the mound on the north, east and south sides is a quarry ditch which has become infilled over the years, but will survive as a buried feature 1.5 metres wide.

Full Description

Bowl barrow partly fallen over cliff. <2>

Half of this barrow has fallen over the cliff. That which remains measures 9.0m north-south and 3.0m east-west with maximum height of 1.0m. There is no trace of a surrounding ditch and there were no surface finds. Bowl Barrow. (3)

SY 95817649. Bowl barrow, 40ft diameter and 2 3/4ft high on Emmett's Hill. The greater part of the barrow has fallen down the precipitous cliff on the west. (4)

No change: situated in rough pasture beside the long distance Dorset Coastal Path. Height OD 120m. <5>

The barrow has been completely destroyed by the effects of coastal erosion. <6>
