Full Description
The Bournemouth and Lymington Junction Railway, (the `Sway Line), was opened in 1888 to cut off the circuitous Brockenhurst - Wimborne - Bournemouth section of the Southampton and Dorchester branch line. The section runs from Lymington Junction to Bournemouth. In Bournemouth a new connection was created to link the old East and West stations, the East station being demolished and Bournemouth Central built on the connection to replace it. The Ringwood - Christchurch line was brought into use between Christchurch and Bournemouth as a double line in 1886. (1)
