Summary

The possible site of a beacon which borough records show was being maintained by the borough of Poole in 1462. H T White suggests that the beacon was sited on either Rings Hill or Whiteway Hill.

Full Description

A beacon is listed by H T White at Worbarrow Down at 567 feet OD (number 5). It was a beacon maintained by the borough of Poole in 1462, a list being made of the hobillers to serve the beacon. (1)

(SY8680). Beacon sited to Worbarrow from OS 10000 1963. The specification that the beacon was at 567 feet OD suggests that the beacon was sited on either Rings Hill (SY863805) or Whiteway Hill (SY877809)). (2)
