Full Description

A weed-covered ornamental pond with an island in the centre with a summer water level of 0.5m above the bottom. It has been affirmed that this pond was definitely the fish-pond of Holme Priory though it has probably been recut to its ornamental character. <2>

Monks Pond was dug in about 1870 for ornamental purposes. There was a pond nearby which may have been there in pre-Reformation days but this was filled in circa 1930. <3>

Monks Pond described in Hutchins as an old fish-pond is probably the fish-pond mentioned in an inquisition of 1281. <4>
