Full Description
A sloop driven on shore in gale in 1829. Owned by Captain and Co (1) During a gale in West Bay this vessel shoed her colours; when sufficient water was over the bar signals were displayed at Bridport for her to take the harbour, but the vessel mistaking them wore round to westward and for an hour tried to fetch the pier. She then anchored on a reef a mile west of here and a mile from shore. Breakers were seen over her deck, one of which swept the captain overboard. Three other crew were saved and her cargo preserved.(2)
