Full Description

The former parish church of the Holy Trinity at East Fleet is now a mortuary chapel. The walls are of local rubble stone with freestone dressings and stone slate roofs. The chancel is of Medieval date with a 17th or 18th century east window; the side walls each have the blocked opening of a former window with a four-centred head. The church was damaged and partly destroyed by a gale in 1824; in 1827 the chancel was repaired and enclosed by a new west wall. The remainder of the church was demolished and replaced by a new church, 540 yards to the south east. Three brass inscriptions dedicated to the Mohun family and dated 1603, 1612 and 1711-2 are visible on the inner walls of the church. <2-3>
