Summary

Fishing vessel lost off Chesil Beach, Langton Herring in 1992. The probable location of a small British fishing vessel which leaked and foundered 2.5 miles of Chesil beach coastguard station after being abandoned by her crew in 1992. She was an engine-driven vessel.

A fishing vessel lost off Chesil Beach at Langton Herring in 1992. <1>

The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.

Vertical datum: LAT
Horizontal datum: WGS 84
Quality of fix: Position approximate.
Charted as the DUNLIN, entire wreck in the Marine zone.

Vessel structure:

Lies at approximate position 50°37.18N, 002°38.79W, at a depth of 1m in a general depth of 27m. <5>

Documentary evidence:

Reported taking in water, was abandoned by crew and later sank.' <5> <6>

Length: 13.4m <5-6>, Source 6 gives her tonnage as 20 grt.

Although it cannot be confirmed, it is believed that the vessel shown in Source 7 is the DUNLIN described here. No other information about the vessel can be found.
