Full Description

Sailing vessel lost near Kimmeridge Ledges in 1973. <1>

Nothing more is known about the BARRYMAN, than that she was a sailing yacht, and that 'Swanage lifeboat launched to two red flares reported sighted between Windspit and Dancing Ledge off St Alban's Head. [And that the] yacht had run ashore in fog at Kimmeridge.' <2>

The UK Hydrographic Office have recorded her as an 'entire wreck' at approximately 50°36'.701 N, 002°08'.081 W [WGS84], but state that 'information [is] too vague to chart' <3> thus only a CASualty record for the vessel has been created. Date of loss qualifier: Actual date of loss

Additional sources cited in Shipwreck Index of the British Isles: LWCR Vol. 213 p293. (The abbreviation shown is taken directly from the Shipwreck Index, but is unfortunately not explained there).

The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
