The vessel 'Ocean Maid' reported to have been stranded on Beerpan Rocks, Christchurch, in March 1881. (1)
In March 1881, a schooner called the 'Ocean Maid' (95 tons) was stranded on the Beerpan rocks, which stretch out to the east from Christchurch Head into the bay. The schooner was laden with slates from Carnarvon.( 2)
The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
