Summary

Pairs of timbers recorded on the foreshore at Ringstead in 1996 were interpreted at the time as the remains of a shipwreck. They may have been the remains of a jetty.

Full Description

Pairs of timbers, aligned north/south and extending up to 12 m, recorded on the foreshore at Ringstead in 1996 were interpreted as the remains of a shipwreck. The paired timbers lie between 600 mm and 1.5 m apart. The archive of field investigations on this site is held by Dorset County Museum. (1) It is conjectured that the timbers mark the site of a former jetty.
