A spitfire lost off Freshwater, Burton Bradstock, 25/9/40 (1)
At approximately 13.30 hours on 25th September 1940 a British ‘Spitfire’ fighter aircraft was seen to crash into the sea off Freshwater, Burton Bradstock. A large patch of oil was found on the sea surface and up to the time of reporting there is no trace of the pilot.(2)
