Full Description

A brick yard marked at Springbourne marked on the Ordnance Survey 25-inch epoch 1 map (1871). The brick yard is in two parts divided by a trackway. The southern part has a pair of rectangular brick kilns built within the clay workings and a shed just to the north. Another shed lies immediately west of the clay workings. The northern part has a single rectangular kiln built into the side of the clay workings and a shed to the south. The northern end has been truncated by the railway line to Bournemouth East Station, which was built in 1870. (1)
The brickworks became disused by the later nineteenth century as they are no longer shown on the Ordnance Survey 25-inch map epoch 2. Part of the former brickworks lies beneath housing and part beneath railway sidings, probably built c. 1885. (2)
