Monument record MWX4245 - Post medieval gravel pits, Ham Hill, Hamworthy, Poole

A series of small gravel pits on Ham Hill, Hamworthy known from map evidence and visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1947. They became disused by the end of the nineteenth century.

A series of five small gravel pits in two rows on Ham Hill, Hamworthy, marked on the Ordnance Survey 25-inch map epoch 1. (1) The pits are marked as 'Old Gravel Pits' on the epoch 2 map suggesting they had gone out of use by the end of the 19th century. (2) The pits continue to be marked on the epoch 3 and 4 maps as topographical features, but are not labelled. (3) (4) They are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1947. (5) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
