Full Description

"Old Gravel Pit" marked on Ordnance Survey 25-inch map epoch 1 dug into the beach at Rockley Sands, Hamworthy. It lies adjacent to a small rounded promontory which may be related to this activity. (1)

The gravel pit and promontory are shown, but not labelled, on the Ordnance Survey 25-inch map epoch 2. (2)

The promontory is not shown on later Ordnance Survey maps, but the gravel pit survives as a slight landscape feature on the Ordnance Survey 25-inch maps epochs 3 and 4. (3) (4).
