Full Description
A clay pit shown on the Ordnance Survey map of 1885 [1], also shown on the map of 1900. [2]
Two pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of Russel Quay taken in 1947 (3). They are considered likely to be the remains of, and an extension of, the post medieval to modern clay pit marked here on historic OS maps. These features were digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). They are still visible as earthworks on the most recent comprehensive imagery available to the project (4).
