Full Description
Russel Quay is first recorded in 1761 and appears to have continued in use until the early 20th century. The site was investigated in 2000-2, the remains of two timber quays were recorded as well as two artificial hards for beaching vessels (1).
A group of submerged structures and posts are visible on aerial photographs of Russel Quay taken in 2010 (2). They are considered likely to be the remains of the post medieval to modern quay marked here on the First edition OS map (3). These features were digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
