An extensive area of possibly late post medieval to modern quarrying is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and recent lidar imagery in the area described above in (1-2) on Round Down to the west of Durlston. The quarries are located on limestone, visible as pits over an area measuring approximately 1105 m by 215 m. (3-7) This site was digitally plotted during the South west Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
