Full Description

[MARGINAL] A late Celtic hinged collar of AD 100 or later was found in PORTLAND in a grave with a Samoan bowl. (1)

No further information was obtained upon this site or the finds during field investigation. (2)

The collar is unusually flat, the principal prominence being the 2 knots in front. It has scrolls in relief and holes into which coral or glass plates may have been fixed. It fastens by means of a hinge at the back and a catch in front. Presented to the British Museum by Mr Luff in 1889. (3)
