Full Description

The Girt House. All that now remains of the Jacobean building, supposed to have been erected by the Governor of Portland for official premises, is used as three tenements. <1>

Nos. 16, 18 & 20 Wakeham Street. All the distinctive remains of the old house is an upper window of three lights, and a similar lower one now converted into a doorway. Small rectangular windows are on the south & west. <2>

The 3 cottages are mentioned in the little deeds as the Girt House. I know nothing about the 3 light window but they are replacing and old window with a modern one in No 20. <3>

SY 69367174. Three stone built cottages partly concrete faced and in a good state of preservation. All windows in the East face are sash but in some cases they are let into older ashlar frames. One ashlar framed window is in the west face of No 18. Access could not be obtained to the west face of No 16 & 20 but from a distance one rectangular blocked in window was noted. <4>
