Full Description
About 1ft. below the surface of the upper face of Furzy Cliff, a rough mortared floor up to 9 inches thick was found. It consisted of oolite, chert and shingle and extended in the visible section for approximately 22ft. It lay between fixed settings or curbs of heavier stones. The floor sloped to the E with the natural ground slope, to the E the floor thinned to a thin stony layer for another 24ft, the last 12ft of which lay over natural large round concretions. The concretions though natural, had been deliberately laid. Romano-British tile fragment and sherds were above and immediately below the floor. (1)
