Full Description

Late 17th or early 18th century brew-house and stable redeveloped in 19th century for residential use. Building unlikely to have formed part of original layout, west wall lies awkwardly on top of the 16th century perimeter wall. East wall possibly incorporating remnant of former Sutler's House, contains doorway leading to a stair that once provided access to first floor of Sutler's House. By 1816, when Reverend Manning granted the castle and grounds, the brew-house and stable had already been converted for residential use. Building extended northwards by Manning family and towards the west, opening a doorway through the perimeter wall.(1)
