Summary

Burnt debris and brick was observed during a site visit in 1981 when the area was developed for housing. The material was in a roughly rectangular scoop and is interpreted as the remains of a brick kiln shown on an early 17th-century map of the Bankes Estate.

Full Description

New housing estate built 1981. Burnt debris and brick observed in roughly rectangular scoop seemed to be remains of brick kiln. Early 17th century Bankes estate map shows a brick kiln in this area and a geophysical survey as part of Poole archaeological survey PM59 showed anomalies which could be brick kilns in fields to the south.
