Summary

Four 'Building Slips' were in existence on the west side of Bridport Harbour in 1787. These were later increased to six at some time before 1823. They were related to the shipbuilding yard which lay adjacent.

Full Description

Four 'Building Slips' are marked on the west side of Bridport Harbour on a 1787 map (1) (2). By 1823, their number has increased to six, as shown on James Green's 1823 plan of the harbour (3). These building slips were associated with the shipyards on the west side of Bridport Harbour, which had been in existence from some time between 1740-1779 and continued until 1879-1885 (4).
