Full Description
Ring Banks, north-west of Saltern. Two ring banks, possibly associated with saltworking. (1)
One of the circular banked enclosures described above in (1) is visible as an earthwork on lidar imagery of 2010. The earthwork is formed of a partial, circular, banked enclosure, measuring approximately 32 m in diameter. (2) It may be one of the Studland Circles, a group of banked enclosures recorded to the north of this area. The date and function of the Studland Circles is unclear but excavation work carried out on one of the circles in 2009 suggested that they may be post medieval in origin. (3) Further groups of circles are located to the north and east (see linked parent record). This feature was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
