<1> Papworth M, 1994, Eastington, Acton, Westwood, Wilkswood, New Barn, Corfe Castle Estate, Wessex Region, 112,345 (Unpublished document). SWX1388.

The three fields immediately west of ‘Sea Spray’ cottage were ploughed in autumn 1987 and a series of field boundaries were visible as soil marks and lynchets. They could also be traced as earthworks in the fields south and east of ‘Sea Spray’. The boundries follow the north-south and east-west alignments of the present rectilinear field system. Most of these old boundaries can be matched with those shown on the 1586 map (Treswell) but some cannot be matched with any boundaries shown on maps and may indicate elements of a ‘celtic’ field system.
