Summary

A hoard of Danubian tetradrachms found on Portland Bill is described in manuscript notes left by antiquarian William Stukeley (1687-1765). The circumstances and exact location of the find are not known.

Full Description

Manuscript notes left by Stukeley, some written on copies of his twenty-three Plates of Coins of British Kings, make it clear that a hoard of Danubian tetradrachms was found on Portland Bill, and that the coins passed into the hands of the Earl of Pembroke, or, in some cases, of the antiquary, John White. (Allen 1961)
