Full Description

Evaluation trenches revealed 5 ditches and 2 possible post holes. Finds of pottery and bone indicates high density of Medieval activity. <1>

The subsequent excavation confirmed the existence of two medieval ditches. Ditch [126] was approximately E-W aligned across the site from the eastern edge of the excavated area, and turned a right angle northwards at the western end of the site. The maximum width of the feature was 2.05m, with a maximum depth of 0.40m. Medieval pottery, animal bone and worked flint were recovered from its three fills. This ditch cut the smaller linear feature [145]. Ditch [145] was 5.90m in length, 0.80m wide with a maximum depth of 0.30m. The two fills contained small quantities of medieval pottery and 40 worked flints. Other undated features including two pits and two postholes appear to have been cut from the same level as the ditches and may also be medieval in date. <2>
