Full Description

Probable irrigation works of late 18th century date, comprising a number of parallel banks about 48ft from centre to centre with cross-banks forming a series of long rectangular basins, lie immediately north of Abbotsbury Swannery. <1>

Probable irrigation works of late 18th century date lie immediately north of Abbotsbury Swannery. They comprise a number of parallel banks with cross banks forming a series of long rectangular basins. Seen on a 1970's aerial photograph. <2>

The features are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs <3-4> and appear to be the remains of a post medieval water meadow system. The site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
