`Southampton, 23d Nov. The HERO, Lanham, of and for this port from Swanage, was wrecked this morning off Christchurch Head. The master, his son, a boy, and three men drowned. (3) Stranded/Total Loss (4) Source (4) gives the destination as London. `Christchurch November 23: ...about 9am a vessel in distress was observed in the West Bay nearly under Hengistbury Head. Many of the inhabitants immediately proceeded to the spot, and with much laudable exertion saved two of the crew (the mate and an old man). Their captain, his son and four of the crew are lost. The vessel appears to be the HERO of Southampton, captain Lannan, from Swanage, laden with stone, burthen about 100 tons...
