Full Description

Date of Loss Qualifier: R Stranded/Total Loss (2) 14-DEC, Poole Capt. Richard Plumleigh to Buckingham. Was forced to leave his own ship at Plymouth and take passage in the St Anthony a pinnace to Capt. Penningtons squadron. Relates an encounter with a Dunkirker mounting 26 guns with whom they fought all night but ultimately escaped by running ashore in Studland BAY.(3)

The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.

Stranded/Total Loss (2); recorded as a French vessel of 26 guns, although based on source (3) [i.e. based on the description of the vessel which chased the English vessel ashore, not the English vessel. There is no record for the English vessel herself in (2); although beached, this does not inevitably lead to loss. (4)]
