Maritime record MWX2346 - Argyle

`The ARGYLE, Cole, from Glasgow for London, with tobacco and 90 tons of whale oil etc., was drove ashore near Poole; the vessel is beat to pieces and the cargo swimming. (2) Carried a total of 50 tons of whale oil. (3) Sources (1) and (3) spell the name of the vessel as ARGYLL, and gives the net tonnage as 90. Master: Cole.

The vessel is recorded at the 'Argyll' within the DCF MAD. (4)

The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
