Wreck event and documentary evidence:

Thought to have struck a mine laid by the German submarine UC-62 since a passing vessel, the SS ETONIAN, heard shouts in the water and sent out a distress call for assistance. A bag containing the ship's papers of the HAZELWOOD was picked up following a search by a patrol vessel; and it was considered that the shouts had come from members of the crew of this vessel, which had been sunk in this position. Vessel sank very quickly and without survivors. A review of UC 75's KTB suggests that HAZLEWOOD was the vessel torpedoed by the U boat, and not BRITANNIA as originally believed. (11)
