Full Description

Crew Lost: All Date of Loss Qualifier: A (1)

At this period the Julian Calendar was still used in Great Britain, with the New Year beginning on 25th March. Therefore the dates from 1st January to 24th March (inclusive) in modern (New Style) reckoning are one year later than those printed on Lloyds List; the date of loss has been amended to 1751 to reflect this. Source (3) however, follows source (2) in expressing the date of loss as 1750 (Old Style). `On the 17th inst. put into Swanage Bay in a gale of wind at SSE the RESIGNAL...The same evening, a French shallop was seen to sink on Peveral Ledge, and the crew perished.
