Stranded/Total Loss (3) `The NEPTUNE, -, from Quebec with fish and oil, prize to the ROEBUCK man of war, was lost the 19th instant near St. Albans in the isle of Purbeck. (2) Source (3) appears to extrapolate the nationality of the vessel from the details given in (2). Date of Loss Qualifier: Actual date of loss

'The NEPTUNE, from Quebeck, with fish and oil, a Fench Prize, taken by the ROEBUCK Man of War, anchored near St. Alban's in the Isle of Purbeck, the 19th instant, but sailing on a Ridge of Rocks, is since sunk.' (4)

The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
