Built: 1913 Where Built: Lowestoft Propulsion: screw-driven 3 cylinder triple expansion engine Boilers: 1 Armament: 1 x 6pdr Hired: 1915 Date of Loss Qualifier: A Hired 1915, sunk in collision off the Shamble Light.(2) Sank following collision off the Shambles light-vessel, this drifter having been hired by the Admiralty as an armed patrol vessel in 1915. Original owner was Frederick Offord, 14 Burton Street, Lowestoft. Wreck lies in 25 fathoms on one side, broken up, standing no more than 5-6ft off the seabed. (3)(4) The GOLDEN SUNSET sank following a collision off Shambles. Hired for use by admiralty. Position 50 32 00N, 02 18 00W, approximately. 11-FEB-1969 Wreckage reported in position 50 33 11N, 02 17 48W. Stands 5 to 6 feet off seabed. 08-DEC-1970 Broken up wreck, lying on its side, reported in position 50 33 24N, 02 16 00W. May be remains of GOLDEN SUNSET. 22-JUL-1987 GOLDEN SUNSET also reported in decca plots 50 34 12N, 02 16 40W. 04-DEC-1992 Sonar contacts of unusual shape in 50 33 23N, 02 15 28W. Least echo sounder depth 27.8 In general depth 28m. No scour. Height 1.6M. Fisherman reports trawling up small davit in this general vicinity. Additional source: CLWB 1918 p155
