‘Dorset County Chronical, Thursday, 25/3/1841 “During the night of Wednesday, the 17th ult., the schooner, Don Pedro, Captain McMillings, went to pieces on the Kimmeridge rocks. We must mention the noble and spirited conduct of Lieut. E. Smith, R.N., and the boats crew under his command, who at imminent risk of their own lives, and after several attempts amidst a dense fog, and a heavy ground sea, succeeded in saving the captain and crew from their perilous situation. During the two days previous to her going to pieces, the whole of her cargo was taken out, consisting of 320 bales of flax, and was put on board the Gertrude tender and deposited at Poole Custom House.” – Also Legg: p:35: giving site as Rope Lake Head, Kimmeridge.’
