Full Description

`The POLLY, Carpenter, from Newfoundland to Poole, is lost on Portland Beach, but little of the cargo saved. (1) `The FLORA, Carpenter, from Newfoundland to Poole, was lost on Portland Beach, in December last, and 3 people drowned. (2) 19 January, FLORA and JASON, merchantmen. The Times contained articles of two shipwrecks. The FLORA, Captain Carpenter, from Newfoundland for Poole. was lost on Portland beach, where three of the crew perished...No dates given for either wreck. (3) Master: Carpenter Crew Lost: 3 Date of Loss Qualifier: A Additional sources cited in Shipwrecks of the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Eras: TT 19 01 1804

The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
