Morning Post, Saturday, 10/12/1831: "The Atlas of Boston, late from Rotterdam to Charlston, in ballast, E.Adams, master, is on shore on Chesil Beach, Portland. Two of the crew were unfortunately drowned. The master of the brig, with the remainder of the crew, six in number, with the passengers, are detained in a house on the beach in quarantine. The masts of the vessel are gone; and hopes entertained, if the gale subsides, she may be eventually saved. A small smack is also on shore at Ringstead Bay."
