Full Description

`At 8am drove ashore on the beach, where 8 of her crew were saved by the rocket apparatus, two men drowning. The vessel has since broken up, her cargo washing out to sea or else all along the shore. The Lloyds sub-agent is in attendance and all that can possibly be done to save the cargo for the benefit of the owners will be done. The captain was amongst those saved. (1)(4)(5) Cargo consisted of planed boards. (5) `A Norwegian barque, CHRISTIANA of Drammen, bound for Dartmouth with a cargo of boards, went ashore at Chesil Bank and became a total wreck. Eight of the crew, including the captain, were saved; but two were drowned. (6) Source (2) gives date of loss as 01-SEP-1884.
