British cargo vessel which stranded on Chesil Beach in 1748. Laden with tobacco, she was a wooden sailing vessel.

Full Description

Wreck is shown on Isaac Taylor's map of Dorset, 1765. (1)(3) Date of Loss Qualifier: R. Taylor records; The Squirrel a Tobacco ship stranded in 1748 most of the people drowned. (4)

Possibly identical with a similar vessel lost at a similar time in the same area ,the Squirrel (MWX1977)

The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
