Full Description

On Tuesday afternoon about 4 o clock, a large Dutch galliot was thrown on shore at Portland on the beach opposite the passage house and went immediately to pieces. All on board perished. The sea made a fair breach over the pebble beach, which prevented any assistance being rendered to the poor unfortunates. There appeared to be eight men on her decks. Part of the wreck is washed ashore with the word LEONORA thereon. Her cargo consisted of walnuts, lemons and tobacco stems. Nothing whatsoever has been saved.
