Maritime record MWX1844 - Nancy 1793

Weymouth August 10th: Early this morning was stranded on Portland beach a brigantine, burthen about 130 tons, Michael Periam master, from Plymouth laden with prize wine and soap and bound for Ostend. The crew were all saved, likewise a part of the cargo; but the ship is entirely lost. (4) `The brig NANCY, Michael Perian, from Plymouth to Ostend, is lost on Portland Beach. The vessel is gone to pieces, and very little of the cargo will be saved. (2) Source (3) contains two consecutive entries for this vessel, one as UNIDENTIFIED, with a date of loss of 10-AUG- 1793, master Michael Perianan [sic] and the other as NANCY, with a reported date of loss of 13-AUG-1793. The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
