Full Description

`From several London prints, Oct. 13...The tender belonging to His Majesty's ship the CENTURION is lost in Portland Road, and about 30 of her men drowned. (1) NB: This vessel may possibly be identifiable with the OWNERS GOODWILL tender, which is in British Warship Losses in the Age of Sail as having sailed from Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, on 17.09.1739 and was never seen again, presumed foundered in the Channel. The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
