Maritime record MWX1811 - Pheasant (Faisan)

Ex-FAISAN. A captured French vessel, taken by the ALBANY in April 1761. (4) `A vessel is lost off Weymouth, supposed to be the PHEASANT man of war. (3) Supposed to have foundered in the Channel. (5) Missing, presumed foundered, on or about this date [10-OCT-1761] in a storm in the English Channel. (6) Source (6) has the date of loss as 10th October 1761, and the tonnage as 292 tons. The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
