Full Description
`From the London Evening Post, Aug. 28: `By letters from Weymouth and Melcomb-Regis in Dorsetshire, we learn, that on Monday last, off the Isle of Portland, near the new Bink, was seen the wreck of a large ship, and by some casks of sugar and bags of cotton drove to shore, they supposed her to be a West Indiaman: the sugar casks were brand-marked LV, and the bags ink-marked BB. NB: The date of loss is given as between Mondays 18-AUG to 25-AUG, as the expression `Monday last at this period can mean either `the Monday just past or `Monday last week, and it is unclear from the context which is indicated. Date of Loss Qualifier: A (1)
The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
