Full Description
8 January, unknown French ship. On this day near Portland the ship ELIZA, of London, Captain Donaldson, from Rotterdam for Bristol, picked up eight hogsheads of French wine floating on the sea and passed through upwards of a hundred more of the same sort, from which it was conjectured that some French ship must have been lost near that island. The crew also took up the figurehead of a ship with netting attached.
